I’ve Been Busy

I’ve Been Busy

Yes, it’s true! I’ve been working on a variety of projects and enjoying summer break. I’m still querying my novel Ditch Flowers and at work (however slowly) on a modern adult fairy tale, a YA retelling of a classic fairy tale (I’m keeping hush about that for now), and am just getting the twinges for a new adult fiction story, though I’m not sure what genre it’ll be. Let’s just say it involves mermaids, but only in a make-believe sense. That one I’m keeping just in my thoughts for now. I have too many other things going on and I really want to get my adult fairy tale finished first. I’m about 15,000 words in and having a rough time deciding if I want to change the point-of-view or not. I really just need to keep writing that shitty first draft thing.

Besides the novel writing and planning, I’m also at work submitting to poetry chapbook contests, which is exhausting (and can get expensive) and should hopefully be hearing from two soon that I’m really hoping are positive. I actually went to an open mike event at a nearby restaurant last month and read my poetry out loud for the first time to a group of strangers. It was a little scary, but I did it, and it felt really good.

And finally, I’m reading a lot- both books for book club as well as my own which I am constantly downloading or buying used from Goodwill. Right now I’m re-reading Harry Potter 5 (for the tenth time or so), as well as The Witching Hour by Anne Rice (which is a loooong book).

That’s my summer so far. I hope you’re having a good one, too.

Cheers!
