Writing day! Or, more aptly, REVISING DAY! 🎉🎉🎉 Can you tell I'm excited to get going? I'm just about to have my coffee and yogurt, then get to work. I'm pretty pleased about the changes I'm making but of course there's still a level of uncertainty. I'm not cutting anything I absolutely love so it's not a matter of killing my darlings. It's just, I want to strengthen the whole flow, and not feel like anything is missing or feels tossed in. I don't want it disjointed, ya know? And of course I want it to be the best I can make it. I want my agent to be impressed when I send it to her come soft deadline. I want to impress myself. And of course, an editor, and eventually (I hope) readers. So, I'm pushin here. 💕
Did you read any books in 2018 that really wowed you? Not just flow/pacing but characters, setting, plot, etc? My favorite was definitely The Hazelwood!!! I'll be posting more on that before the end of the year so sorry not sorry if you're sick of me gushing 😋

Thank goodness for Friday! It was a rather long week, and as I posted yesterday, I'm so excited for this weekend. For the day, though, I'm snuggled up at home, taking it easy. I'm thinking about the word care. Way too often I get stuck in a mindless mentality and rush through things. I'm guilty of neglecting myself and my health, and I want to be more mindful of how I'm living. As I was watering my plants today, I noticed one was looking awfully sad (not this, my glorious tall jasmine) and it made ME feel sad, because it's such a small, simple thing to take care of and I let it slip in my distraction. 🥀
The truth is I have a LOT to be proud of managing. The other truth is there's a lot I'm not good at taking care of, things I don't balance well. I want to be better, and I'll be spending less time here as well. I'll still post regularly and I love checking up on ya'll, but if I don't respond to comments or messages right away it's because I'm trying to spend less time lingering and more time taking care of myself and my loved. And my sad little ruffle bottom fern ;) 🌿

Another bit of poetry pulled from my manuscript 🥀
The love story here isn't about perfection or tidiness. It's two flawed and passionate people who see each other for exactly who they are, who accept each other for who they are. As the writer of their story, at times I felt like I was looking in on their intimate moments, not creating them. They just...were.
In revision upates... I don't have any lol. I basically just reread what I've done so far, and polished that up. As you can tell, it's early here (and I'm wide awake) so I may go work on it for awhile until I have to get goin for the day.
As a random aside, can you read this style font ok on my quote pages? It could be my tired eyes but it seems a little blurry and I just want to be sure it's legible! Let me know below ♡

In fiction updates: I'm still working on revisions and am nearly 2k into the story. The middle will be the easiest part so I'm hoping to sail through that. I need to change the climax so I'm glad I have time to really think about it first. I recently watched V.E. Schwab on an Instagram live and she said it's super important to nail a great ending, in part because readers tend to judge the entire story more positively or negatively based on how the story finishes, which I think is true.
In poetry updates: I'm hoping to share a new poem tomorrow but I'm not sure I'm ready? The great thing is my poetry dry spell is over and I'm writing some very vulnerable poetry...but that means it's harder to share. I've opened myself on the page many times before but perhaps I'm out of practice and feeling insecure. 🤷♀️ Still, all in all, I'm feeling good today, and I can't wait to write tonight! I am really excited for revising, and the vision I have now is so clear for how I can love this story even more than I already do. Writing it was so fun, and challenging, and surprising! I've said before that writing is one of the best kinds of magic, and that certainly felt true with this story, the way things just came to me, the way the characters came alive on the page and settled themselves in my heart.
I can't wait to share this with you all someday. Now, back to work! .

I'm 1/3 of the way through Uprooted and I'm enjoying it. Actually, it's reminding me a bit of Beauty by Robin McKinley, which is my favorite old book. The writing style is very similar, so for that reason alone, I'm liking it. When I finish this book, I believe I'll be just one away from meeting my Goodreads challenge of 50 books in 2018 but despite that accomplishment, I still feel a little sad I didn't get to many other books! 😂
In other news, I had a fantastic conversation with my agent today (I'm still not used to saying that, btw. Agent!? 💕) and we discussed revisions on my manuscript. I'm SO excited for this challenge and I can't wait to get started making this story even stronger. So, tonight, I'll be devoting time to working on that before continuing Uprooted. :) What are you reading now that you're enjoying? .

Happy Thursday ❄ We woke up this morning to full stockings and St. Nick was sweet enough to get me some new jammies and nail polish 😋 I've been so cold all day and made soup and chili, but that still wasn't enough so I'm warming up with my homemade maple hot chocolate! I'm also rereading through all my notes for my YA fantasy. I've drafted Act 1 so I'm 20,000+ words into it and I know a lot of things that happen later but I've many more unanswered questions and I think the uncertainty has made me lose steam. So, my plan is to reread the notes, and listen to my playlist as well as scroll through my inspiration board.
